We are thrilled to announce that Joe Delk and the Delk Band have been honored with the 2024 New Mexico Rounders Award! This prestigious accolade recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to promoting the western way of life, and we are truly humbled to join the ranks of previous awardees.
Named after Max Evans' iconic novel, The Rounders, this award was established in 1990 by former New Mexico Secretary of Agriculture, Frank DuBois. Since its inception, the award has celebrated 34 outstanding recipients, including Max Evans himself, who was the first to receive this honor.
Each year, the New Mexico Secretary of Agriculture presents the Rounders Award at a ceremony held in the fall. This event is a time to come together, share stories, and celebrate the enduring legacy of New Mexico’s rich cultural heritage. All past recipients are invited to attend, and it’s always a memorable occasion marked by reflection, connection, and a shared commitment to preserving the traditions and spirit of the West.
While we mourn the loss of Max Evans in 2020, his legacy continues to thrive through the Rounders Award. Max’s work as a pioneer of Western and New Mexican culture has shaped the state's identity, and his memory lives on as we honor the tradition and dedication of those who follow in his footsteps.
We are incredibly proud to receive this honor and excited to continue sharing the music, stories, and traditions that have long been a part of the Western way of life. Thank you for your support and for joining us in celebrating this special moment!
